Message From Chief Minister
Ali Amin Gandapur
Chief Minister KP / Chairman Policy Board, KPRA
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has historically relied on federal transfers for its fiscal needs, with limited exploration of Provincial Own Source Revenue (OSR). However, the 18th constitutional amendment presented an opportunity containing the mandate of collection of Sales Tax on Services to the respective provinces, aiming to promote self-reliance and reduce dependence on federal transfers. In line with this, the KPRA was established in August 2013 under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Act, 2013, with the mandate to administer Sales Tax on Services rendered, provided or consumed in the province.
I am happy to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you and the team of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority’s (KPRA) for revenue collection of Rs. 30.523 billion for the financial year 2022-23. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of the Team KPRA and the support of our taxpayers and businesses.
Our success in collecting the revenues highlights the effectiveness of our tax reforms and the transparent utilization of revenues for the betterment of our province. This not only reflects the growth of our economy but also provides us with additional resources to invest in public services, infrastructure, and the overall progress of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
I want to emphasize the government’s commitment to continuously set efficient revenue targets. By achieving these targets, we aim to reduce our reliance on external sources and gain greater control over our economic destiny. This will enable us to invest more in crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social welfare, creating a brighter future for our citizens.
Looking ahead, the revenue target for the upcoming year, 2023-24, has been set at Rs. 35 billion, representing a 17% growth compared to the previous year’s collection. This ambitious goal demonstrates our confidence in the capabilities of the KPRA and the dedication of our taxpayers and businesses.
Together, we can continue our journey towards a self-reliant Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The revenue generated will be utilized to enhance public services, drive economic growth, and improve the quality of life for all our citizens.
I express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to every taxpayer and business for their unwavering support and contributions. Your commitment to fulfilling your tax obligations has been instrumental in achieving this remarkable feat. I encourage you to remain proactive and responsible citizens, as your continued cooperation is essential for the success and development of our province.
The KPRA will remain dedicated to simplifying tax processes, fostering a business-friendly environment, and introducing innovative initiatives to enhance revenue collection efforts. We will work tirelessly to not only meet but surpass the revenue targets, as we strive for a self-reliant Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that offers abundant opportunities for growth and prosperity.
Once again, I commend each and every one of you who has played a part in achieving the revenue collection. Let us continue this journey together, with renewed determination, as we set our sights on even higher targets for a self-reliant and prosperous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
